Keep up the good work!!
Robert

Thanks for your post, Robert - and that's a useful question!

It's difficult to find comprehensive and up-to-date listings (lists tend to be either incomplete and/or also include dentists who have moved or retired), but there are definitely useful and important lists and I strongly encourage everyone to investigate them before choosing a dentist.

It's extremely important to make use of the services of holistic mercury-free dentists, rather than trusting other dentists who are not mercury-free or holistic. However, at the same time this does not mean that all dentists listed at the sites below can necessarily be guaranteed to be 'approved' and recommendable.

For readers located in Britain or Ireland: I set about compiling a list much more comprehensive than any other I'd ever found for these countries. It can be viewed at various sites, including (thanks to the gentle healer for hosting it!):

www.gentlehealer.co.uk/helpyourselftohealth/id26.html

For readers in other countries: some research may be necessary, but there are several useful sites to begin at. First of all I'd recommend searching the directory at the following, which is also an excellent and unparalleled general site for information on all dental matters – the official IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) site:

www.iaomt.org

If you are outside the USA, find out if there is an IAOMT branch in your country, as they will often be your best first port of call for information as well as referrals, no matter where you live.

Note, however, that there are many other organisations in different countries too that are important. Another important directory can be located at the site of The International Association of Mercury Free Dentists, who have extensive listings for many countries:

http://dentalwellness4u.com/iamfd.html

This site, among others, also has helpful tips on what type of questions you should ask when researching whether a dentist is suitable or not.

The following site lists some other organisations for many different countries:

http://medlem.spray.se/heavymetalbullet ... ontakt.htm

Another site that may be helpful for locating suitable dentists is:

www.talkinternational.com

Finally, if you haven't been able to find a holistic mercury-free dentist near you using the above links, then read the helpful Dental Wellness Institute advice below (from http://dentalwellness4u.com/freeservice ... ists1.html ):

Mercury Free Dentists: What If You Can’t Find One in Your Area?
In 2005 only about 10-15% of all dentists in the USA were mercury free and not every mercury free dentist will be listed on the database. Mercury free dentists are a minority and often face severe pressure from the American Dental Association (ADA) and its pro-amalgam peers. Thus, mercury free dentists tend to support each other and will often know other dentists who are mercury free in their various countries and states. If you can’t find a mercury free dentist in your city or town, call the one listed nearest to where you live and ask to be referred to a mercury free dentist close to you. It may take a few phone calls but it will be worth the effort.

I would like to add a further highly useful piece of advice, based on the personal advice of Dr Russel McLean and Dr Bill McCollam, dentists I know personally to be of the highest integrity - and essentially, this is the main thing you need from a dentist, rare as it is in my view: high integrity.

To find this out, and thus at the same time find out if a dentist is suitable for you, these would therefore be the two most essential questions of all in my view - not specific questions about this or that particular safety precaution, but instead the following:

(1) Are you completely mercury-free, i.e. do you ever place mercury into anyone's mouth?

(Note: Most dentists "do mercury-free" i.e. they "offer a choice." This is an unacceptable answer. The only acceptable answer is if the dentist is 100% mercury-free, and always refuses to give a patient mercury, and would rather lose the patient than give them mercury. This question reveals very directly whether or not the dentist has taken to heart the intrinsically dangerous toxicity of mercury fillings. If he/she hasn't, then I would suggest you walk in the opposite direction, and have ALL your dental work performed somewhere else. This includes dental work which has NOTHING to do with mercury as well, because many other types of dental work are frequently toxic and unnecessary when not provided by experienced holistic preventative dentists, in my view. I would strongly recommend having ALL your dental work performed by only the most highly trusted holistic mercury-free dentists, no matter the expense or journey-time involved, else your health and wallet will suffer much more in the long-term!)

(2) What safety precautions do you use for YOURSELF as a dentist when removing mercury fillings?

(Note: On Dr McLean's excellent suggestion, this is a question which will directly reveal the extent to which the dentist is taking the matter seriously. If the dentist is not bothering to use extensive safety precautions for HIM/HERSELF, then this means he/she is not taking the dangers of mercury vapour seriously, and you would do better not to entrust your dental work to this dentist. An example is whether the dentist carefully covers their own face with a mask to filter out the mercury vapour while removing mercury fillings. A simple charcoal mask is good, an oxygen mask even better, but most dentists use neither of these when working with mercury fillings. Another example is whether the dental clinic has special ventilation facilities provided to take mercury vapour out of the vicinity of the dental chair).

There are naturally many other possible questions you can ask, but these go to the essence of the matter in my view.
